Joining or Leaving a Community and a Chat: What You Need to Know

On Jaumo, joining a community is flexible and customizable. Here’s how to join, leave, and understand the difference between being part of a community and being active in its chat.

Joining a Community

  • How to Join a Community: Find the community you’re interested in and tap the Join button.

  • Once you’ve joined, you’ll land on the Discover tab and also see two other tabs: Chat and Members.

  • Joining the Community Chat: Joining a community doesn’t automatically add you to its chat.

  • To join the chat: Tap on the Chat tab.

  • The chat room will open, but you won’t be able to send messages yet.

  • At the bottom of the page, click the Join Chat button to become an active participant in the conversation.

Leaving a Chat or Community

  • Leaving the Community Chat Only: If you’d like to leave the chat but remain part of the community: Tap the three dots in the top-right corner of the chat screen.

  • Select Exit Group Chat.

  • You will no longer see this community in your inbox or participate in the chat but will remain a community member.

  • Note that deleting a community chat from your inbox by archiving and then deleting it will remove you from the chat but not from the community itself, allowing you to rejoin the chat later if desired.

  • Leaving the Community Entirely: To completely leave a community: Click on the community name or header to open the community information page.

  • Scroll to find the Exit group option.

  • Tap on it and confirm to permanently leave the community, including its chat and all associated features.

  • You can rejoin a community anytime by finding it under Explore Communities in the Communities tab.

With these options, you can personalize your community experience.
